About Sara-Mana Central Office

central office

New space in Suite G-2!

Who manages Central Office?

The office is staffed by one full-time Office Manager and a part time office assistant who answers questions, makes referrals, assists committees, groups and individual members, maintains our website and sells books and literature.

Decisions and policies are made by an eight-member volunteer Board of Directors, the Office Manager, plus two Alternates. Four members are elected from Sara-Mana Intergroup and four from General Service District 4, South Florida. Directors must have at least three years of sobriety and they serve overlapping terms.

The Board is guided by the Twelve Traditions, the guidelines published by GSO in New York and By-laws written by the first board members. Quarterly Board reports are made at each service organization meeting. Central Office Board Meetings are open to all interested AA members.

What does Central Office do?

The Central Office of Sara-Mana is a non-profit corporation established in 1985 to provide a physical location for Alcoholics Anonymous in Sarasota and Manatee County. It is independent of Intergroup and General Service. This is where the “Twelfth Step” phones are answered and members can get AA literature and information. The functions of Central Office of Sara-Mana, Inc. are to:

  • Provide and maintain a place for the local service organizations and committees to meet and conduct business, including the AA Helpline
  • Answer or refer inquiries regarding AA to the appropriate group or individuals
  • Obtain and supply AA-related literature and materials to individuals, groups and institutions
  • Maintain a calendar of service activities for the local AA community
  • Receive and forward donations and other materials to local Intergroup and General Service organizations
  • Store archival information for local service associations
  • Host and maintain the AA group database used by the Meeting Guide app and on the web

The service area includes the communities of Sarasota, Bradenton, Palmetto, Ellenton, Siesta Key, Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island.
